Jeanette Brown's Thesis Exhibition
Jeanette completed two capstones so that they could graduate from the Fine Art and the Graphic Design departments. Exhibiting their thesis work, Traversing the Landscape was a part of the capstone for the Fine Art department. It consists of an installation, a painting, a drawing, a cyanotype print and a lithograph. Framing, installation and lighting were also done by Jeanette.
TRAVERSING THE LANDSCAPE

I am making work that represents my moment in time and space in the disparate cultures I participate in and am surrounded by. I am thinking about existence and creating space in the present by celebrating, combining, and acknowledging self in the past and present moments.
Usually, my concepts determine the materials I use. However, I do gravitate to digital art, photography both analog and digital, printmaking, painting, and textiles. Photography as a medium showcases the effort of trying to capture a time and place. My personal photographic imagery is the start of these works. Then I reimagine and rework those images into various media: painting, digital art, printmaking, and drawing. My work is about honoring and connecting moments from the past by bringing them into the present.

The viewer is let into my point of view, my personal space and time. Expressed as layers of emulsion, layers of ink, layers of paint and/or layers of fabric, the audience will equate the work with the layers of time. They walk away with an appreciation for the landscapes I’ve traversed.
